Exploring the concept of design

Purpose of Design 

My first article was about designing our thoughts and mindset where it signifies the role of manipulation by the surroundings on our thought process and how we get influenced to take certain action and think about our requirements. But something which was not mentioned was what design really means and exactly how it influences our experiences. There are so many creations which surround us if we look from the clothes we wear to the visuals we watch on TV or in our mobile phones everything begins from designing the physical form or the interface based on fulfilling a particular need which was discussed previously but what it addresses is the emotional side and the other is the utility side that I discuss  here in this article. 

What is design?

In fundamental terms, DESIGN is the planning for the creation of an object or product that would be involved in the process of human-machine interaction. There are 2 ways Design could be viewed 

1. Emotional or Aesthetics perspective

2. Usability or interactive perspective 

Firstly, we consider the case of  Aesthetics, Its about how we perceive the visuals that are observed and we analyze to come to a conclusive state called feeling. For example, we are mesmerized by a new pattern or shape of a building or some apparels that sends us a vibe of good feeling or gives us a sense of pride and respect though we may not get anything in terms of physical productivity apart from that feeling, it is good enough to contribute to our well being. 

Secondly, coming to the interactive form of design which is related to the development of some physical/virtual product where the user gets to see or visualize along with using it to have an interaction with the design & resulting in the usability of the whole design. For example, we have heard  User interface(UI) design which is about connecting the virtual side to the user who will be using that particular system  or talking about the design of a product now before moving ahead with the physical product design we must know how & where it is designed & I believe most of us have heard about the term PLM which stands for Product Lifecycle Management-based platforms example CAD etc are extensively used for design & development of a market suitable product according to the needs of people, this system environment help us to design the product which will satisfy the requirements of a particular area let it be logistics or packaging industry or maybe its just a simple tool for repairing some machine, everywhere nowadays for designing a virtual environment is used for getting the actual outcome. 

Integrating with Philosophy

Simply if we look at the study of nature, existence, and reality of the existence of a particular concept then we call it philosophy and when we think about design is a form of an idea which influences our living & how we go about our work then we call it as DESIGN PHILOSOPHY. 

Every individual when he designs something then it gets heavily influenced by his existing thoughts based on his expectations and ideology which is synonymous with the Philosophy of the person in the role of a designer. So the design world is more or less govern by the analyzed experiences and these experiences lead to a product design which is high on efficiency and more valuable to the society.

Role of Originality

Remember our pre-existing values & thoughts must be well tuned in order to get to that position where we could see our surroundings through our own perspective which may get influenced but not borrowed from someone or some source & if this criterion gets satisfied then we are sure to have a distinctive DESIGN PHILOSOPHY.

 This is the reason having a good design philosophy for any company is so important for enhancing their brand name and gaining more appreciation in the market which they are targeting which only achievable when they will have the ideal product for the customer and in order to have the ideal product ones need to have the desired philosophy. Now companies which are the best in their segment like Apple in electronics, Brands like Zara in the fashion world, Marcedes-Benz in automobile and etc, whichever company is doing well in their field is because they hold a certain design language for their product line that gives the customer sense of pride along with fulfilling their expectations if not all then at least most of them gets approved.

We can take a deeper look at those companies which I have mentioned here probably in the next article maybe.

Hope this explanation is making sense on how both the Design and Philosophy in combine makes the best pair for obtaining the required solution for a high-value product.
